New School/Church for Namanga

By Martha Whinery

(In May 2011, Feed the Kingdom donor, Martha Whinery of Sunset Canyon Baptist Church, traveled to Namanga in southern Kenya. This is her report.)

In May 2011, I met Brother Gabriel, a Maasai believer who teaches the “school” at the Feed the Kingdom property.  He has 27 students who walk over from nearby homesteads.  The school has no walls, no roof, no floor and no furniture.  There are no books, no tablets and no pencils, so they learn ABCs and 123s by writing with their finger in the dirt.  They have class in dry weather but no class when it is raining.

As I looked a the small, bare spot under the lacy shade of the acacia tree and the skinny pole “benches” of the tree school my heart was overwhelmed with desire for  a real school building in that place.  I have not been able to get it off my mind since I got back—and I feel personally charged by the Holy Spirit to attempt do so something toward that aim.  I am going to do everything I can—and pray that others will join with me.

Editor’s Note:  Please contact us if you would like to join Martha in building a school/church building in Namanga.  100% of donations designated will go to cover direct costs.
